TYPES OF CHARTERS and RATES: Whether you're new to fishing for Florida's shallow water species or a seasoned "old salt" angler, I can custom design a trip for you. |
THE BOAT While on your guided Florida fishing trip to the beautiful Tampa Bay or Gulf Beaches, you will be aboard Captain Little Jim's New 2008 Ranger Cayman flats boat. The new Cayman can comfortably fish up to two anglers with a maximum of 3 anglers plus Captain. The boat is very smooth, dry, stable and safe. It has 360 degrees of fish-ability. It's very shallow (10.") draft along with a "Bob's Machine Shop" jackplate will allow us to reach some of the shallowest of the shallow water flats - places many other boats are not able to reach. Using either the Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor or Capt. Little Jim will climb the poling platform to pole you into position so you can make the best cast to tailing red fish or snook. |

THE TACKLE Hook Setting Charters will supply you with all the rods and reels you will need for the day no matter what the target fish may be. You may bring your own tackle it you prefer, just let the Captain know in advance. You will be fishing with one of three quality Quantum reels. Each reel size is custom matched to a Quantum Energy PT, Tsunami Air Wave or a Gloomis rod to fit a specific fishing application. We mainly fish with live bait - either scaled sardines, threadfins, pinfish or shrimp. There are times and applications where artificial lures will out fish live bait. If you would prefer to only fish with artificial baits just let the Captain know in advance. In those situations I have tackle boxes of lures both soft and hard baits. If you like, bring a few of your favorite lures in a plastic bag. Please, no tackle boxes. Do express your desire to bring your own equipment with Captain Little Jim in advance. |
All current Coast Guard required safety equipment is onboard and checked by the FWC to ensure the safety of every fisherperson aboard a "Hook Setting Charters LLC," trip. A Lowrance color GPS and depth finder featuring the latest in electronic charts. An 8' Power Pole will ensure that the boat will hold its position in the wind or current to allow you to cast to just the right spot. Two live bait wells will keep all of the bait alive and active. Captain Little Jim will catch threadfins, scaled sardines and pinfish in one of his "Lee Fisher" cast nets for your day or night on the water. Ample storage is available for your personal items safely out of the elements. A Marine radio is on board however we have great cell service in all areas we will fish. For those many fishing areas designated as no motor zones or in extreme shallow water the Captain will use his whisper quiet Minn Kota trolling motor. However when conditions require the Captain will mount the poling platform and pole you in to casting range to ensure a stealthy approach into the best fishing grounds. The boat is powered by a dependable New Yamaha HDPI 200 Hp Outboard which can get you to the best fishing grounds and safely home at the end of the day. |
What you should bring: Beverages of your choice, should you care for something other than bottled water to drink. No coolers please the captain has a cooler with ice for all your drinks and snacks. Just bring your drinks in a plastic grocery bag and the captain will place them in his cooler. Snacks and or sandwiches to eat. Bring sunscreen along with a hat, sunglasses and a cover-up if you wear a bathing suit onboard. The Florida sun can be brutal in the summer and no one wants to ruin a great vacation with sunburn. Our Florida weather can change in just a few minutes especially in the summer. We are prone to quick thunder showers so bring your rain suit if you have one other wise the captain will provide you with a disposable thin plastic rain poncho for your protection. Comfortable shoes-either deck or tennis shoes. No black or leather sole shoes please. Most important, please bring a good attitude. Remember, the captain has purchased all licenses for you to fish-you do not need to purchase a Florida saltwater fishing license. |

Call Captain Little Jim to further discuss details of a trip for your son or daughter they will remember forever. |
Children have short attention spans. Thus I have found that they can only enjoy short trips of 2 to 3 hours maximum. I'm flexible and patient with our young anglers and teach them the joy of being on the water and catching a fish no matter what species. Our abundant waters will insure that the little one's line will get pulled. These charters are a collaborative effort that actively includes a parent. They will have photos to remember the experience and show their friends back home. |
Fishing with Children Charter Special: Children of all ages are welcome aboard a Hook Setting Charter. I have seven grandchildren and have loved to share my love for fishing with them. I offer several special trips designed just for the little fisherpersons with mom and/or dad at reduced rates. |
